Numbers 28 – 29
The priests were to offer two first-year lambs per day plus an extra two each sabbath. Then there was the requirement that they offer seven unblemished first year lambs (plus two bullocks and a ram) at the beginning of each month plus seven extra offerings at Passover and one on the day of firstfruits and twice in the seventh month plus seven double sized offerings for the week of the feast of tabernacles (more than doubled for the bullocks – 13+12+11+10+9+8+7=70 of them) like the offerings at the beginning of each month. That means that they would need enough flocks to produce 1086 lambs each year over and above the necessary number for sustaining the flocks and for the other sacrifices people had to offer (some of which were also required to be first-year lambs).
With that many required offerings I don’t see how the priests could ever forget their duties.
