Joshua 23 – 24
I wonder if some people thought of Joshua only as a military leader to be honored for his past accomplishments and not as a spiritual leader to follow his present words.

When Joshua says that the Lord brought their fathers out of Egypt he is speaking literally of the fathers of most of the men he is now addressing. Joshua indicates here that the Israelites served the Egyptian gods while in Egypt even if they remembered what they had been taught about the God of Abraham.

Like the people under king Benjamin, the Israelites followed the Lord for as long as Joshua and any who outlived him who had seen the works of the Lord in bringing the people out of Egypt.
