Judges 8
Gideon promises to repay those who would not help him before all the leaders of Midian were subdued. At this time their remain 15,000 in the Midianite army after 120,000 had been slain. Had Gideon defeated them with an army of 32,000 it would have been miraculous but the people might have thought it was there own strength.
I’m not sure what to think about Gideon’s many wives and his concubine. I don’t get the impression that the Lord authorized that polygamy. I find it interesting that Israel did nit even show respect to Gideon’s family after he died. They immediate return to Baal worship shows that they were never converted to the Lord, they simply feared Gideon because he had defeated Midian and he had made it clear that he would not tolerate the worship of Baal.
I wonder what it was about the worship of Baal that drew the people back to it over and over.
