2 Samuel 12
When Nathan told the parable of the ewe lamb he did not present it as a “what if” but as a “this just happened here in Jerusalem” which is why David, missing the reflection on himself, got so angry.
When David admits his guilt Nathan tells him that the Lord hath put away the sin, meaning that he would not suffer the Mosaic consequence of being stoned to death. David was allowed to continue to reign but his rule from now on would be marked by strife in his household.
I knew that Solomon was the son of Bathsheba but I had forgotten that he was not the child conceived in fornication. He was a child of their marriage. David fasted a week hoping his child would live. Once the child died he accepted the will of the Lord and returned to normal life.
