I take it as a sign of reverence for a place already considered holy that as the temple was being built all the materials of stone (and possibly wood as well) were formed onto their appropriate size and shape before they were brought to the temple site so that the site would not be as dusty, dirty, noisy, and industrial as it would be if they were formed on site.
