Solomon not only married foreigners but marries from the very nations the Lord had warned Israel to avoid. This could not be an accident, it was simply thinking that the rules did not apply to him. The result was exactly as the Lord had warned, Solomon began participating by degrees in the worship of false gods.
It’s sad to see Jeroboam given the same warnings and promises as David and Solomon while knowing that he will be making the same mistakes.
