1 Kings 20 – 21
The king of Syria demanded the silver, gold, wives, and children of Ahab and Ahab said “whatever you say.” When the king of Syria then said “I’ll take whatever else I want” Ahab refused. The Lord sent a prophet to promise Ahab that he would win the battle. After he won against the king of Syria and 32 other kings, the prophet returned and told him that in one year he would have to fight the Syrians again. The second time the Lord delivered Syria again to show that he ruled the valleys as well as the hills. The small army of Israel killed 100,000 Syrians and of those who retreated 27,000 were killed when a wall fell upon them. After that display of the Lord’s power Ahab allowed the king of Syria to go free and was then told that he would lose his life and his people for allowing Ben-hadad to go free after the Lord had appointed his destruction.

This is interesting. When Ahab desires a certain vineyard and cannot purchase it Jezebel arranges to have the owner killed by having two men testify that he was a blasphemer. Afterwards Elijah prophesies that Ahab and Jezebel will be killed and left without posterity. Sharks interesting to me is that even though Ahab is said to be the most wicked king Israel had ever had he repents sufficiently after that prophecy the the Lord chooses not to destroy the house of Ahab until after Ahab is dead.
