2 Kings 8
This is an interesting chapter. Elisha tells the woman whose child he brought back to life that there will be seven years of famine and tells her to go somewhere to preserve her household. What really interested me was where Elisha prophesied to Hazael that the king of Syria would recover from his illness but would still die and that Hazael would be king of Syria and do terrible things to Israel. He saw the disappointment on Hazael’s face when he said that the king would recover. Hazael then delivered theprophecy of recovery to the king then suffocated the kin in his sleep – people would assume that the king died of the illness.

Jehoshaphat had been a righteous king for Judah but his son married the daughter of Jezebel and followed in her wickedness.

Hazael had been slightly offended when Elisha prophesied the terrible things he would do to Israel but after the wicked kings of Israel and Judah attacked Syria he would eventually do all those things.
