3 Nephi 28
The account of this meeting where the Lord offered a gift to each disciple must have come from one of the three who asked to remain on earth to Mormon. The essence of the answer to prayer would have been made known among the people but I doubt the details of His asking them what they desired would have been made generally known.

I can only imagine the peace and security that those beloved disciples and John must feel with the knowledge that they are beyond reach of the cares of mortality and that they can focus on bringing people to Christ. I don’t mean to suggest that their life is easy but the fact that they know they have power over being held captive or harmed removed one distraction. It leaves them free to honestly have no other concern than the welfare of their fellow men. It is hard because they have a clear vision of the wickedness of the world and they probably get the hardest assignments in the work of the Lord.
