The secret combination of Akish was probably not the first secret combination in the land if it had such great hold on so many people in such a short period of time that they could kill Jared while he gave audience from his throne.
The wild swings from righteousness to wickedness among the Jaredites seem even more extreme than among the Nephites. I wonder if that was because there was no nation of enemies to stir them up in remembrance of their lack of safety.
