Journal 4 September 2011

Laura had to stay home from church because Enoch had a very runny nose and even if he was not really sick he would have worried his nursery leaders. That allowed me to take the four older kids. I actually got to listen to the testimony meeting. I remember being surprised and impressed last week that Ted Hallisey gave the closing prayer in sacrament meeting (right after I gave the closing talk). This week he got up to bear his testimony. He shared his experience with becoming disillusioned with the church. He said he had even thought of leaving the church but that because of the kindness and support of this ward he publicly pledged to end his “4-year vacation” and get serious about the church again. It was good to hear him make that commitment.

I gave the lesson in priesthood. The subject was President Eyring’s priesthood talk “Learning in the Priesthood.” The lesson went very well with good discussion and a good spirit. As I expect that to be my last Sunday as the president of the quorum I think it was an appropriate ending.
