Ezra 10
I’m trying to figure out if “putt{ing} away {their} strange wives” meant divorce or if it meant ending conjugal relations. As for children of those wives it probably meant pledging no inheritance for them in either case.

Divorce would probably be the best course in the case of those wives who were actively promoting the gods and idols they had grown up with but their may have been some cases of wives who were not Israelites but who were not trying to pursue the worship of their other gods. In such cases it seems that divorce would cause greater damage in the long run by creating more problems than it was meant to solve.
