Psalms 17 – 18
I wonder when and how gradually David began to substitute his own voice for the voice of the Lord so that he would follow his own base desires to the grevious sins he committed. Knowing my own errors I think I can safely say that even in hindsight he would not be able to identify when he began to think his own thoughts were the words of the Lord.
I get the same feeling from David as I got from Sampson. Both were very accomplished by the blessing of the Lord but both became filled with their own greatness. The only difference was that David invoked the name of the Lord more often.
