I get the impression that Lehi and his family were not traveling while he was studying the brass plates and prophesying about his seed. I don’t know how long that took but it might have been a good time for them to grow together, get comfortable in wilderness conditions, and make preparations to travel more efficiently. If that is the case they may have been more prepared for women and children after taking that time of study and growth.
I just realized that it would be contrary to the purposes of Heavenly Father to separate a people without providing a way for them to bear children. Obviously there are instances such as when a people are being destroyed where some individuals do not have the chance but that is the exception rather than the rule in the eternal plan.
I wonder how well the families of Lehi and Ishmael knew each other before this journey in the wilderness. I’m confident they were not total strangers but were they close friends or passing acquaintances?
Did Laman and Lemuel want to kill Nephi ecause he had told them that they would die if they chose to remain. In Jerusalem?
