Mosiah 27
It sounds like Alma and the sons of Mosiah were not doing anything that could be called “persecuting” members of the church. What they did was more devious and destructive as they turned people against the church rather than simply heaping scorn, ridicule, or abuse on church members.
It is interesting that the account here has Alma receiving a message while his companions were fallen to the earth. On the other hand, when Alma is teaching his sons he indicates that the angel said other things that the sons of Mosiah heard while he had fallen to the earth.
I love that the elder Alma described this as being something the Lord had done for his son even while his son was unconscious.
