Alma 20
I can’t decide if Lamoni was naive about his father (considering how his father first reacted to learning about Ammon) or if he knew the goodness in his father (considering his actions later when he was taught by Aaron).

I just realized that Lamoni’s father was angry because of his belief that Ammon and his brethren were trying to con the Lamanites for personal gain. He thought Lamoni had been duped. When he was at the mercy of Ammon and Ammon requested nothing for himself and only the release of his brethren and Lamoni’s independence within his existing kingdom he began to realize that his belief was flawed. That is why he requested that Ammon and his brethren should come visit him. It was an earnest desire to know more, not a trick to capture them.

Lamoni’s father tried to kill Lamoni because in his ignorant anger he thought Lamoni was too stupid and stubborn to live.
