Alma 46
With the ranks of the lower judges being constituted by the kind of men who would want a king I have to assume that there was a fair amount of perverse or at least activist judgement being rendered in the land. Perhaps part of their frustration was in having many of their favorite judgements reversed by a more conservative group of higher judges. It appears at this time in Nephite history that those in the military were more righteous and conservative generally than those in the judicial/legal system. The same often seems true in our day although I am not confident that it is presently true. Both groups seem to be fairly “progressive” in their positions currently although their aims differ somewhat.

I notice that the title of liberty does not indicate a desire to go liberate the Lamanites or to end the threat posed by a nation that was opposed to their liberty. It simply reminded them of those things which were worth defending even unto bloodshed if necessary.
