Alma 62
I can imagine the joy of Moroni who must have been confused with the feeling that he would need to march agains Zerahemla which contrasted with what he had believed of Pahoran’s love of liberty. When he learned that Pahoran was still faithful but that Zerahemla was in the hands of rebels everything made sense again.
One reason that Moroni was so successful in raising men was that his popularity was so widespread that the king-men probably avoided attacking his character directly in their efforts to subvert Pahoran and undermine Moroni. When Moroni called for volunteers and openly spoke against those dissenters the people knew who to believe.
I believe the reason so many Lamanite prisoners joined the people of Ammon was that they were pressed into service by Ammoron and did not like the way their nation was ruled under a wicked Nephite dissenter. They might not have had a problem with him being Nephite but they did not like the disdain he showed for his subjects. Moroni treated them better as prisoners than Ammoron did as subjects which probably opened their eyes to the lies they had been told.
