3 Nephi 8
Some have suggested that the great darkness upon the land was fallout from a volcano. While that may be true the smoke and ash from the cities which burned was certainly a contributor to the darkness.

I think that people should have been somewhat patient with the timing of this prophecy as they had memory of the way the earlier prophecy of Samuel took place after some had declared it was too late.
