3 Nephi 10
What mixture of awe, hope, and surprise must have filled the people after hearing the voice of Christ? Whatever it was caused them to silently contemplate their position and experience after He spoke. The second message of Christ was again reassuring and inviting without dwelling on the destruction they had experienced. This message was designed to lead their minds further toward Him. The result was that the dam broken again on the emotions that had been held at bay by their awe for the previous hours of silence. They ceased their renewed wailing only when the light returned to their land.
I believe there is much to learn from these last few chapters about how we should correct our children and draw them into righteousness. I am especially interested in the pattern of the Lord in reminding them of the destruction caused by their wickedness and inviting them to return and repent then allowing them to ponder and even wail as their souls may require for healing.
