I have decided to do the 30 Days to a Better Man challenge. I made that decision at least a week ago but it has taken me this long to finally devote time to the day 1 challenge of defining my core values.
When I finally focused on it I found it interesting to develop a list and then whittle it down to five values. I had to keep reminding myself not to self-censor during the process and not to choose values on the basis of what others might view as being of core importance. I eventually came up with 13 values which got whittled to this top five list:
- Exercising and maximizing agency (mine and other’s)
- Honoring covenants (as well as other agreements – some people might call this being dependable or having integrity)
- Gaining priesthood power
- Showing mercy
- Enacting justice (especially for others)
Other values that did not make the top five included (in alphabetical order):
- Consistency
- Family
- Independence
- Intelligence
- Logic
- Masculinity/Manhood (possibly because it is a current area of interest)
- Relationships
- Righteousness
I plan to write about each day’s challenge here although I might share the results of some challenges elsewhere too.
