4 Nephi 1
For those who think there may have been more people than just Nephites and Lamanites in the Americas but are not sure how to reconcile that idea with the parts of the record like this fourth book of Nephi where all the people were united and would certainly have been proselyting if there were other groups to encounter, there is always the possibility that at that time there were no other groups with which they had even passing contact.
If there were other groups before the destruction they may have been completely destroyed or they may have joined the Nephites after the dorm because all the groups had been so decimated. Any other non-descendants of Lehi and Mulek may have not come until after the people had splintered.
It appears that Nephi ceased to keep the records once he was called to be a disciple (doubtless because he had more important things to attend to).
The people of Nephi abandoned the unity of belief that had so blessed them only a century before Mormon was given charge of the records.
