Jeremiah 43 – 45
I just realized that Jeremiah prophesied that Jerusalem would be a desolation without inhabitant but he also prophesied that those who remained would be safe if they stayed. Both prophecies were true because those who had been spared were taken to Egypt (whether they wished to good not) so that Jerusalem was left desolate.
How of today do Christians and even Latter-day Saints specifically emotionally or spiritually burn incense in worship of gods other than the True and Living God?
The Jews are claiming that their experience is the opposite of what Jeremiah has prophesied. He says that they shall be punished if they continue to worship false gods but they say that they have been punished whenever they ceased such worship. If they believe that it is little wonder that they ignored him.
I had this realization days ago about why we do not worship a female deity but I don’t believe I recorded it so I will do so now. Worship of a female deity would rightfully be worship of Heavenly Mother. We know that we have a Heavenly Mother but we are forbidden to worship her because Heavenly Father has chosen not to reveal anything about her. Whatever other reasons may drive such a choice one reason is because of the principle of plural marriage. We know that plural marriage is a legitimate eternal reality but if Heavenly Father were to even reveal how many eternal companions He had, be it one or many, we would fixate on that number as being the highest expression of family structure – again whether that was to have one wife, two wives, or twenty wives. If He were to reveal that He had one wife most people would reject that plural marriage could be a righteous possibility. If He were to reveal a plurality of wives without revealing a specific number and characteristics of those wives some would turn that into any set of female deities that they could imagine to worship just as some have taken the nugget that godhood is a state rather than simply one specific individual and have created pantheons of gods to worship without regard to what we know of Heavenly Father. In summary, Heavenly Father must be silent on the subject of Heavenly Mother because any information He might reveal would be used to pervert sacred truths and polite the minds of man.
