1 Nephi 12 – 14
The word “ordained” popped out at me. I know how we use it in the church but what does it mean generally? Looking it up, we use the first definition “to confirm holy orders upon someone” but the second definition captures the generic or secular meaning of the word “to order or decree.”
Nephi clearly saw that it was after generations of dwindling in unbelief since the Nephites were wiped out that the Lamanites became a dark, loathsome, and filthy people. The curse upon them throughout the Book of Mormon was not dark skin although they were darker than the Nephites due to differences in their lifestyle so that they could not mix surreptitiously.
I love how Nephi closes saying that what he has written is the truth but not the whole truth nevertheless, while he had not written the whole truth he had written nothing but the truth.
