1 Nephi 17 – 18
When they arrived in the land they called Bountiful Nephi may have assumed that they were in the promised land because they could go no further and it was so week provisioned. part of the reason for their murmuring may have been that Laman and Lemuel thought that Bountiful was an ideal place to settle.

I always recognized that the animals they found when they landed were from the Jaredites but it just occurred to me that the Jaredites might still have been in the process of destroying themselves to the north and the animals they found so plentiful are because they landed in the area that the Jaredites had saved as a game preserve.
