Considering that Alma had been a priest for Noah it is quite possible that he had a friend in the court who knew of Noah’s plans and knew that Alma was no threat and therefore choose to warn Alma. I wonder if the Lamanites continued to call it the land and city of Helam aster Alma and his people got away.
As far as we know, none of the people of Alma were killed during the time they were subject to Amulon and the Lamanites. Perhaps some were killed due to the anti-prayer decree of Amulon but it is possible that they ceased vocal prayers as soon as he made the threat of death.
