Mosiah 27 – 29
Why did Alma put so much effort into destroying the thing his father was giving his life to build?
When the younger Alma spoke of being in the darkest abyss he is not referring only to the first party of his comatose experience, he is referring also (and possibly to a greater degree) to his years of rebellion.
Mosiah tried to p convince at least one of his sons to remain so that he would have an heir for the kingdom. While trying to persuade them and praying to the Lord for guidance he not only received assurance from the Lord that they would be safe but he also began to see how the kingdom could be altered so that it could continue independent of having an heir. After the experience of the people under Noah and what he read in the record of the Jaredites it was clear to him that the kingdom would be better off if the people we not dependent on a king.
When his sons left he never saw them again because he died before they returned.
