Perhaps it wasn’t until the hundredth year of the reign of judges that all the records became consistent in measuring time based on the sign ww Christ’s birth. That would be a reason for Mormon to give a reckoning here according to all three major time scales – the reign of judges, the departure from Jerusalem, and the sign of the Savior’s birth.
Satan specializes in speaking his lies with a mixture of truth. The only truth in this letter from Giddianhi seems to be his use of the name Lachoneus. I take that back, I believe the hope expressed by Giddianhi that they would simply surrender to be truthful.
Giddianhi threatened to attack within a month but it took over a year and a half before the robbers became desperate enough to try attacking the Nephites in a single fortified location. after losing that first battle it took another year and a half before the robbers concocted the foolish plan to lay siege on a fortification that didn’t depend on any outside resources. It is possible that during the tunes when the robbers were not attacking the Nephites used the lands immediately outside their divisions to assignment their supplies by raising more grain but they had enough supplies to live without any present support from outside their fortifications.
