3 Nephi 14 – 15
To illustrate the truth behind the warning that not everyone who says “Lord, Lord” shall be received into heaven I can imagine a discussion with the Lord at the judgement bar going something like this:
Q: Why was I not assigned that glory?
A: When I was hungry you ignored me, when I was naked you passed me by, and when I was sick you forgot me.
Q: When did I see you sick or hungry or naked?
A: Inasmuch as you did it not unto the least of these my brethren you failed to do it unto me.
Q: But Lord, Lord – did I not do great things in your name, pushing for a universal safety net, humane treatment of animals, and better care for earth’s environment?
A: No matter what name you invoked, I never knew you. When you invoked my name it was in vain because you would not follow me.
When it says that some failed to understand the saying that old things had passed away we need to remember that some of those in the multitude not have known little doctrine. When the righteous are spared their righteousness was determined by their purity of heart, not by their knowledge of doctrinal principles.
