Zechariah 13 – 14
The declaration that “I am no property, I am an husbandman,” makes it sounds as if the Savor will come in disguise at His second coming. That doesn’t sound right to me. Perhaps that image is just how the vision was presented to Zechariah.
During the war in heaven the third part, that portion which decided to reject the plan of God and follow Satan instead, were cast out. At the second coming two parts in Israel will be cut off and die while one part, the part that declares “the Lord is my god,” shall be preserved and accepted. If we understand the two parts and one part split of these two events to be comparable and if we recognize that this is not necessarily a mathematical 67%-33%, then we can surmise that the the parts are: 1) those who declare by word and deed that “the Lord is my god,” 2) those who follow their own inclinations for good or ill, and 3) those who choose to fight against righteousness (which is more inclusive than simply the sons of perdition but probably less inclusive than the telestial kingdom). We also recognize that the three parts are not equal or even necessarily comparable to reach other in size.
When the Savior undertook the Atonement He did so at the base of the Mount of Olives. When He comes to subdue all nations He will do so at the crown of the Mount of Olives. That is wonderful imagery. I’d like to commission a painting depicting that. I’m not sure if I would want to include the fact that he ascended to heaven from the slopes of the Mount of Olives as well. I would also very much like to visit the Mount of Olives and walk from the base to the crown of it.
This is the most direct and comprehensive project I have read concerning the second coming. There shall be no darkness at evening time and the people shall flee for safety into the valley that will remain when the mountain parts asunder. And water will flow out from Jerusalem in both directions (east and west I presume).
The declaration is interesting that when the Lord reigns on earth those who do not come to worship him each year will have no rain in a year that they do not come to worship Him. It sounds vindictive in some ways but I’m sure it will make more sense at the time.
