Luke 22
Two factors made it necessary to have a betrayer. First, the chief priests didn’t want to take Jesus while there was a multitude present and second, they wouldn’t be present when He was taken. If they were willing to be present they could have identified Christ themselves. If they were willing to take Him while a multitude was present they could have sent the guards to arrest whoever was at the center of the throng in the temple.

I get the impression that Christy may not have partaken of the sacramental elements with His apostles. I’m not certain of that but it seems possible based on the way things are worded here.

I never realized before that before His betrayal Christ told His disciples that whereas He had sent them without purse or scrip before He now expected any which had purse or scrip to take them. Furthermore, any which had no sword should purchase one even if it many selling their clothes to do so. On the other hand, when He was told that they had two swords among them He said that was sufficient (at least for that night).
