The Pharisees who were clamoring to have Jesus condemn the woman we not so anxious to actually cast the first stone at the woman. they knew that whoever did so would implicitly suggest himself as the most righteous among them and would find himself more scrutinized in the future. Whenever was most qualified to carry that first some was also last interested in doing so – especially Jesus.
I don’t Christ could have been any more direct than he was here repeatedly declaring who he was.
