1 Nephi 13–14
I wonder if the great church is the Catholic Church in the sense that it was what was formed from the Nicene council which, while the creed from that council is still accepted as the basis for the orthodox definition of Christian belief, was called together for the purpose of coopting a movement that the government had realized they couldn’t extinguish more than it was about following Christ and bringing salvation to the children of Heavenly Father. The Catholic Church is the direct successor organizationally to the outcome of that council but the spiritual great church is the church of power and pride and the pursuit of riches. Is not a recognized denomination but it’s members are found through the world and they claim membership in any number of organizations (religious or otherwise). In our modern world this church of pride, power, and the pursuit if riches (PPPR) is so ubiquitous that it no longer requires any publicly recognizable organization in order to win converts and further it’s aims.
