Take a look at our excellent series on the four archetypes of the mature masculine. Read the descriptions, and think about which archetype you most strongly resemble, and that which seems to be your greatest weakness. Write about how you can achieve better balance between all four archetypes and identify the specific ways in which you can strengthen your weaknesses and harness your perhaps overpowering strengths.
I’m interested to read the book King, Warrior, Magician, Lover that outlines these archetypes. This exercise is a good one for me that I will need to explore more fully. I’ll address each one in the order they were covered in the series.
Lover
I have stirrings inviting me toward accessing the lover archetype but I’d have to say that I’m generally the impotent lover most of the time.
Warrior
I think that I am fairly well balanced in the warrior archetype but not fully developed yet. I can be more decisive and energetic but I am not a sadist and have largely eradicated the masochist in me.
Magician
I am relatively developed in the magician archetype. In all its aspects this one describes me. I also see that lack of opportunity for initiation is a big part of the explanation for what I lack in the other archetypes thus far.
King
Since the king archetype is the harmonious synthesis of the other three archetypes it is easy to conclude that with an impotent lover and a slightly masochist warrior I am bound to be a weakling rather than a true king.
Conclusion
My weakest archetype is the liver followed by a weak warrior. None of my strengths are overpowering but I can further develop my magician characteristics and use what I have already developed of them to bolster and refine my underdeveloped warrior and lover characteristics until I grow into a decent king archetype personality.
