Mosiah 23 – 24
The first account if Alma and his people escaping the king says that they were appraised of the coming of the army suggesting that a person tipped them off. The second account says they were warned of the Lord. I believe the difference is one of authorship. The first account was written by the people of Limhi. They ascribed the timely exit off Alma and his people to human intervention. The second account was recorded by Alma. He ascribed the warning to the Lord although that doesn’t preclude the possibility that the warning was delivered by mortal means.

I wonder if the experience of Alma and his people helped plant the idea of a government without a king in the mind of Mosiah.

The land of Amulon was probably populated by no more than 150 people. (That would be a few more than 24 priests plus 24 daughters of the Lamanites plus 4 children for each couple. I doubt they each had 4 by then.) The land of Helam had over 450 people before the land of Amulon was even founded.
