Lamoni’s first desire after having established the church among his people was to share the gospel with his father. I like to imagine that the reason for that was that he knew his father to be a good man. Of course we see that the timing wasn’t right for his father right now.
As soon as his father turned his anger (and his sword) on Ammon Lamoni must have known that Ammon would be safe.
