Is the Amalekites and the Zoramites had been prepared with armor they might have commenced the battle against the armored Nephites despite the fact that their men were virtually naked. only self-preservation stopped them from that first attack.
It was, perhaps, culturally unacceptable to use the kinds of deception in battle that Moroni employed.
The words Moroni sent forth to inspire his men were an early version of the title of liberty.
