Helaman 10 – 11
The reference to ”this temple” makes me think that Nephi was near the temple in Zerahemla when the voice spoke to him.

I think I understand why Nephi choose to call down the famine. I used to think it was because he felt it would be better spiritually for the people that they not do the purging and punishing by their own hands. While that is still true it might also have been that those who were physically weaker such as women and children might have been more likely to repent but we’re at a disadvantage in battle and suffered more even in observing fighting than in experiencing famine.

In a matter of fifteen years the people went from being so wicked they were threatened with destruction to being humble enough to fully destroy the Gadiantons from among them to rebuilding the Gadiantons so that they were strong enough to defy the full armies of both the Nephites and the Lamanites.
