I don’t know why I settled on this section but I find it interesting that Ezra Thayre was given the opportunity to take his money back from the church and leave the saints if he wasn’t interested in living according to the commandments of the Lord. I wonder what other saints would have thought if he had accepted that option after this revelation. (Thayre remained with the church despite some rough patches until after Joseph Smith was killed them he was among those who joined the reorganized church.)
To the saints generally this says that “your sins are not pardoned because ye seek to counsel in your own ways and your hearts are not satisfied.”
I love how the poor who are willing to lay hold upon other men’s goods and unwilling to labour with their own hands are chastised alongside the rich who refuse to share their substance.
