Bishop and Ministry

I looked at Bishop in the Topical Guide and noted that the book of Doctrine and Covenants mentioned the office more than the New Testament and that it was never mentioned by name in the Old Testament. I was looking out of an interest in the connection between the lineage of Aaron and the office of bishop. There wasn’t a while lot said on the subject.

I went to the Bible Dictionary entry for bishop and learned that the weird means overseer and this was sometimes applied to the apostles. The scriptural references listing the scriptural qualifications for the office of bishop essentially indicate that a man must be spiritually mature, stable, and worthy in the gospel to hold the office.

As a tangent I also reviewed the entry on ministry which indicates that ministry is doing the work of the Lord and representing the Lord by preaching the gospel and administering the ordinances among the people.
