Jacob received the name of Israel right before he met Esau again after twenty years of living and serving in the household of Laban. Jacob expected a fight when he met Esau but got an embrace instead.
I notice a pattern that Jacob learned not to be very trusting of people. He left Laban without telling himand after reconciling with Esau he said that he would follow slowly when his intent was simply to disappear after Esau went ahead.
