I’m surprised at how little the Bible Dictionary had to say about Daniel. As a youth he was asking those captured by the Babylonians and one of those selected to be raised in the royal household. Even as a youth he was bold enough to defy the kings instructions in order to live as he had been taught. The fact that he had been taught and had the personal convictions to live according to Jewish law in the face of danger out him in a very small minority. That kind of faith prepared him to be among those who we know had the vision of eternity. He served as a favored advisor to multiple kings while his people were in captivity and exile. I wonder how much harder their situation would have been if they didn’t have one in a position of power who shared their heritage and religion.
