The father of Lamoni is similar to his son in many ways. Out of ignorance and prejudice he first opposed the Nephites missionaries (Lamoni didn’t really oppose Ammon but he also didn’t realize that Ammon was there to preach) but once he believed he the his whole weight behind their efforts. He offered to give up all his sins and he renamed his heir to reflect an identity separate from Laman and Lemuel. While he told a large kingdom and willed more power than his son he also had to have larger and more determined opposition when he converted to the religion of the Nephite missionaries.
