Martin Harris reminds us that men who live generally righteous lives can falter. Martin did so publicly a few times as he list the 116 pages of manuscript and later let the church. The key is that he also did great things like supporting Joseph during the translation, mortgaging his farm to pay for publication, and reconciling with the church after his public separation.
Martin’s request brought about the revelation that there would be three witnesses to the Book of Mormon, of which Martin would eventually be one. I wonder if this came after the promise found in the Book of Mormon of three witnesses had been translated or before it. I have the feeling that it was before and being March of 1829 I feel confident this is so.
