Newell K. Whitney

Newell K. Whitmer was very prominent in the very early days of the church as his store was used as an office by Joseph Smith and as the bishops storehouse for the church. In later history of the church he doesn’t stand so prominently. This wasn’t sure to any faltering on his part but rather because the twelve apostles gained more prominence in the church. Brother Whitmer served faithfully as a bishop and presiding Bishop until his death in Utah in 1850.
