When Zeniff left the land of Zerahemla to return to the land of Nephi he coed the things that he thought st the Nephites apart from the Lamanites but he deeply underestimated how much the difference was about having an inspired leader. Zeniff kept a record of his people and doubtless taught his children how to read and keep records as well. Only by experience did he begun to realize that besides those things the people needed to be actively guess by the Lord of they were to keep themselves free from the designs of the Lamanites.
