We are told that Abinadi came from among the people of king Noah. I am wondering what prompted him to draw near to the Lord and whether he felt to prophesy to the pi triple before they began openly but fading in their own strength. Had he been sounding a warning among friends before then?
Where was Abinadi during the two years after Noah determined to slay him before he began preaching again?
The people of Limhi didn’t only have to call with the Lamanites taking half of their annual production but they also dealt with reduced production because of pestilence prophesied from the Lord.
Noah and his people separately and publicly asked “who is Abinadi that he should judge us?”
I really think that Alma asked the question of Abinadi about the meaning of the scripture from Isaiah saying “how beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that publisheth peace.” I think Alma had bought into the idea that their job as priests was to speak pleasant things to the people. It’s just like so many today who hold no standard besides “Jesus said love everyone.” It sounds good on the surface but declaring love as a cover to abandon standards leads people away from Christ, not toward Him.
The greatest publisher of peace was Christ Himself and His message didn’t always sound peaceful (especially when speaking to corrupt Pharisees).
