I don’t know how anyone could feel safe with Amalikiah – not even his closest associates such as those who killed the king of the Lamanites. At some point each of them must have figured out that the only person who could be assured that they were in his favor was him. He gained the favor if the king and immediately betrayed him. He gained the favor of Lehonti and immediately began poisoning him. He gained command of the dissenting Lamanites and immediately began persuading them to do exactly what they didn’t wish to do.
