The first message of John the Baptist was “the axe is laid unto the root of the tree and every tree that broken forth not good fruit shall be hewn down.” The people who listened to John were under no illusion about the impending judgment.
I find it interesting that the translators for long James didn’t ensure that the genealogy of Jesus used the same name that were common in the old testament for the week know lineages prior to Abraham (or even the widely known lineages prior to David).
