Unprofitable servants

We don’t paid servants or give them special rewards for doing the basic things that are expected of people in their position. Jesus indicates that, recognizing that, we should understand that keeping the commandments is the baseline for those who would enter the kingdom of God and we shouldn’t expect to be praised for our diligence. Our reward is already greater than any praise could measure up to. I think a secondary lesson from that is that we should be careful not to give praise to lightly lest it lose its value. While we praise the first steps of a baby learning to walk it would be not only of but completely inappropriate to praise an adolescent for each step they take.
